Chris Harvey has always lived a quiet, calm life in his comfortable house.
But something seemed when he found himself in a hospital bed one fateful day. His health began to decline and the reality that he might not be set for much longer. In the sterile white room, with only the remote sound of heart monitors, Chris wondered if his family would finally be checked.
With a heavy heart, he desperately called his daughter Angelina in a desperate attempt to reach help. He knew a little that these calls would cause a number of events that would forever change his family’s dynamics, revealed secrets, and revealed the true nature of the people he had most trusted.
Chris Harvey, an 87 -year -old man, lived alone in his house for most of his life. His daughter lived far away and his grandson never visited, so when one day he needed to go to the hospital, he had no choice but to call his daughter for help.
“Dad, I can’t take time off now, but I will make sure Peter will come to check,” his daughter Angelina assured him.
Peter, his grandson, also lived far and never tried to visit or stay in touch, so Chris did not expect to show up this time. But Angelina convinced Peter to fly to Texas to help and reluctantly agree.
Chris’s stay in the hospital was not serious because of nothing, even though he was kept for tests for several days. When he returned home, he was stunned to find some of his things, including his couch, paintings and chairs, accumulated on the front lawn. The door he remembered that the rescuers were safely closed was now open.
Inside Chris found Peter and his wife Hannah.
“Oh, what surprise,” Chris said. “But what’s up with my things?”
Peter, hugged his grandfather, replied, “We decided to reconstruct the house and thought we would end before you came back but returned home before we thought.”
Peter explained that they got rid of some objects and moved the rest to the storage in the area.
“That’s great,” Chris replied, “but I’m going to catch some medicine from the pharmacy. I’ll be right back if you two finish painting.”
But when Chris returned shortly after, he heard the heated interview between Peter and Hannah.
“Peter, your grandfather is still alive. You said he was dying, and we got this house! What are we going to do now, you idiot?” Hannah shouted. “I spent my savings for that! I would spend some money for this house if I knew he wouldn’t die?”
Peter tried to calm her down, but Hannah was too angry to stop.
“I know it spoiled our plans,” Peter said. “But this house will eventually be ours. How long do you think he will live? Is he so old.”
“No, Peter, we’re moving today and that’s final,” Hannah said.
“What about the house? It’s empty and nothing is done. We can’t leave it that way,” Peter said.
“We can and we will! I’m not careing about the old man!” Hannah burst.
Peter agreed, “Okay, we’re doing it.”
Chris then climbed the porch and pretended to have arrived home.
“Peteter, Hannah, what would you want me to get for lunch?” he asked. “By the way, I have something important with you.”
Later Chris told Peter and his wife that he decided to permanently move to the nursing home to have a house.
They were naturally enthusiastic. They continued reconstructions and as soon as everything was completed, they invited their friends to celebrate.
The day was filled with joy, laughter and drinks. During the celebration Chris lifted the glass and made a toast.
“This is for Peter and Hannah who spent all his money on the renovation of this house, which I have to enjoy for the rest of my life,” Chris said.
Peter and Hannah were amazed.
“What?” Peter asked. “What do you mean you will like it?”
At that time Chris revealed that he heard their conversation.
“I’m sorry I didn’t die and didn’t destroy your plans,” Chris said. “Now go out of the house before I call the police.”
Although Peter and Hannah’s friends quickly left, the couple tried to apologize, but Chris refused to listen.
The next day Chris called his daughter to explain what he did and why. While she was not pleased with the situation, she understood that her son was given what he deserved.
Chris lived for another 11 years. After his completion, his house was sold and the proceeds were donated to a charity organization that helps vulnerable older people.
Finally, Chris Harvey’s decision to overcome his ungrateful grandson and his wife was a strong reminder of the value of honesty and respect for the family. Rather than letting his relatives be used, he turned his tables and ensured his home and heritage to be protected. His actions not only revealed their selfish intentions, but also allowed him to enjoy the rest of his life according to his own conditions.
Chris lived for another 11 years and his last gesture – giving the proceeds from his house to charity that helps older people – was appropriate to honor his character and lessons he provided. In the end, Chris proved that sometimes the greatest heritage is sometimes wisdom to stand for himself and do dignity what is right, even in the face of betrayal.
